“It was necessary to conclude an agreement to break this inflationary spiral”, announced Bruno Le Maire at the “13 Hours” of France 2, Thursday August 31. The Minister of the Economy said on this occasion that he had reached an agreement on prices with the manufacturers who met Thursday morning in Bercy, following meetings with the players in the French food chain. In this context, “prices will not go up or will go down” for 5,000 references, detailed the minister. This represents “a quarter on average of references in a supermarket”, said the minister.

Negotiations between manufacturers and supermarkets for 2024, which usually start at the end of the year, will also be anticipated, “from the month of September and until October 15”, according to the announcements of Bruno Le Maire. The government’s objective is to obtain “price reductions from January 2024”, said the Minister of the Economy. Bruno Le Maire also attacked industrialists who in his eyes “might do a lot more” once morest soaring prices, citing the giants Unilever, Nestlé or PepsiCo.
