“Breaking Science News: Artificial Monkey Embryos, Rare Genetic Diseases, Magic Tricks, and Hibernating Bears”

Researchers have created artificial monkey embryos in the lab! It’s a world first!

They achieved this feat by creating structures very similar to monkey embryos. They were even able to implant them in surrogate mothers and trigger a normal hormonal response as in a pregnant state.

The goal is to better understand the very first stages of the formation of embryos and organs in humans, and even to have leads to understand the phenomenon of miscarriages.

Listen to Martin Carli at the microphone of Patrick Lagacé discuss the latest scientific discoveries.

60 new rare genetic diseases

More than 13,000 families affected by rare genetic diseases have benefited from advanced genetic analysis, and researchers have been able to offer a diagnosis to more than 5,000 of them and discover 60 new diseases in the process. We explain the scope of such a short story, which is quite closely linked to my first short story.

Hands and magicians

Moreover, it seems that in order to mystify one’s audience with prestidigitation, spectators should have hands that resemble those of the magician.
Researchers have presented a classic magic trick to different species of monkeys that have different hand anatomy, and it’s only the signs that have anatomy like ours that get mystified. It reminds us of the importance of mirror neurons, and suggests that human perception varies according to their own individual abilities!

The secret of hibernating bears

In closing, we finally understand why hibernating bears do not clot blood. When you sit still for too long, you risk developing blood clots. Hibernating brown bears don’t clot blood, however, even if they don’t move for months. We finally understand why.
