Breaking Records: Astronaut Frank Rubio’s Extended Stay on the International Space Station and Its Importance for Future Space Exploration

2023-09-22 02:00:26

The first components for the construction of the International Space Station were launched into space in 1998, and completion occurred in 2011. Since then, many astronauts have stayed here. Among them, astronaut Frank Rubio is the person who broke the record for the longest stay in space through a single NASA mission. He headed to the International Space Station following launch in September 2022. The original planned stay was 6 months, but he is still staying on the ISS and has broken the record for an American astronaut to stay in space for a single mission. The previous record was 355 days, but astronaut Rubio broke this record not long ago. The reason he is staying here and extending his schedule is because a problem occurred with the Soyuz MS-22, the aircraft that was scheduled to be used to return to Earth. It was confirmed that a 0.8 mm hole was drilled on the outside of the spacecraft and coolant was leaking from it. Because of this, the Soyuz had to return unmanned, leaving the three astronauts who were scheduled to board it in space. It was an unexpectedly long stay, but he sees it as an opportunity. As lunar missions revive and expand from here to Mars and other parts of the solar system, it is important to learn how the human body adapts. If this is optimized, it can be helpful in space exploration far from Earth. Astronaut Rubio’s expected return date is said to be September 27th at the earliest.
