It was the first tournament to be held at the artificial surfing facility “Shizunami Surf Stadium” that opened in August last year, and it proceeded in a format different from the game at sea.
The tournament will be R1, R2, semi-final, and final, for a total of 4 rounds, and will be narrowed down to 18 people → 8 people → 4 people → 2 people. In each round, the number of waves that one player can ride is set to 4 to 8, and the total points of the best two are the points, and the top players advance to the next round.
Athletes will be notified in advance of a “wave-making schedule” that indicates the number and direction of waves (left / right) and the type of waves (maneuver / air).
Live broadcasts will also be delivered following the semi-final held according to the schedule below. Point calls and provisional rankings were announced following each ride, and the heat was tense.

The women’s final was a confrontation between Shino Matsuda and Amuro Tsuzuki, and Amuro Tsuzuki, who scored two excellent scores with a maneuver, won the championship.
Shun Murakami, who marked 9.43 on the front side full rotation air, won the men’s final, which was a match between Shun Murakami and Hiroto Ohhara.
Amuro Tsuzuki and Shun Murakami will be the third champions of the Japan Open and will represent Japan in this year’s “ISA World Surfing Games (WSG)”. The selection method for the remaining two men and women who will participate in the WSG will be announced in the future.
