President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol nominated former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo as the new government’s first prime minister candidate on the 3rd.
President-elect Yoon held a press conference at the Presidential Transition Committee in Tongui-dong, Seoul on the same day and explained the reason for the nomination of the new government’s first prime minister, saying, “Candidate Han Deok-soo is a person who has been recognized for his skills regardless of political faction.”

Prime Minister candidate Han Deok-soo, who attended the press conference with Yoon-elect, said, “It is an honor, but I feel a very heavy responsibility.”
One candidate said, “As a mid- to long-term task for the country, I will strive for four things: first, diplomacy and strong national defense for the national interest, second, the fiscal soundness of the government, third, the balance of payments issue, and lastly, improvement of national productivity.”
Candidate Deok-soo Han for Prime Minister served as an orthodox economic bureaucrat who served as the chief economic officer of the Presidential Secretariat under the Kim Dae-jung administration, as the Minister of Finance and Economy and Prime Minister under the Roh Moo-hyun administration.
