AA / Khartoum / Adel Abderrahim
Clashes resumed on Saturday between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital, Khartoum, despite the ceasefire agreement. This was stated by eyewitnesses in Anadolu.
“We hear loud explosions and warplanes flying over Al-Muqrin neighborhood,” they added.
Al-Muqrin district is located close to two main bridges connecting the city of Khartoum to Omdurman, namely Al-Fatihab and White Nile bridges.
On May 22, a new ceasefire agreement came into effect for a week, as talks between the two sides in the conflict continue in Saudi Arabia, to try to reach an agreement ending fighting and a peaceful solution to the ongoing armed conflict in Khartoum and other cities.
For their part, the Sudanese police forces have called, in a press release, their employees who are retired and those who are able to bear arms in Khartoum and elsewhere to present themselves to the local police (to join them) in order to secure neighborhoods, vital areas and markets.
On Friday, the Sudanese Ministry of Defense called on retired armed forces to go to the nearest military command to arm themselves, in order to secure themselves and comply with the plans of their regions.
However, the Rapid Support Forces said in a statement that this appeal represented a failure and an attempt to take refuge with citizens to fight on their behalf.
