Kim Seong-han, head of the National Security Office, said on the 31st, “Since the current security situation on the Korean Peninsula is very serious, I am looking forward to this meeting of the security chiefs from the United States, Japan and South Korea to be a fairly timely and meaningful discussion.”

At a meeting with reporters at Incheon International Airport on the same day, Director Kim said, “I will come to have a constructive discussion that can further strengthen and expand security cooperation between South Korea, the US and Japan.”

On September 1 (local time) at the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in Hawaii, Chief of Staff Kim will hold a meeting with U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Japanese National Security Agency Director Takeo Akiba.

Regarding the meeting, Kim said, “I hope that this meeting will become a kind of discussion forum to find out how to effectively deal with North Korea’s increasing nuclear and missile security threats.” We plan to discuss what we can do to make it acceptable.”

Kim also added, “Since we see it as an economic and security issue, we plan to discuss the inflation reduction method during the bilateral meeting with the United States.”

Regarding the fact that this meeting was held at the Indo-Pacific Command, Kim said, “I think it should be called a human-team strategy. “I expect that if the three-party security chiefs’ meeting is held in the center, it will be possible to discuss the ROK-U.S. alliance and South Korea-U.S.-Japan security cooperation at a more macro level.”
