Breaking News: Ryan Huska Named Head Coach of Calgary Flames for NHL 2023-24 Season

2023-06-09 13:34:48

As of this writing, the Calgary Flames are officially one of the last NHL teams without a head coach in place for next season.

Unless we see a club (in Ontario?) dismiss its man, only the Rangers, the Blue Jackets and the Flames have to formalize the identity of their new driver for the rest of things.

And unofficially, Mike Babcock is going to Columbus next month.

Now the Calgary Flames have decided to name Ryan Huska as the club’s next driver. At least that’s what Elliotte Friedman says, reporting that nothing is official yet.

Huska has been an assistant in Calgary for a few years (2018). He was also the farm driver from 2014 to 2018 and coached the WHL in Kelowna for years. In 2009, he was WHL champion and lost in the Memorial Cup final in Rimouski.

He played one NHL game with the Hawks – once morest the Flames.

He was a prominent candidate from the start of the process in Calgary, which considered internal guys. We are talking regarding Kirk Muller (associate coach) and Mitch Love, coach in the AHL.

One wonders what this means for them.

There were also external names floating around, but obviously that’s not the chosen option. Craig Conroy has worked with Huska for years and he’s her man.

Quebecers like Patrick Roy and Pascal Vincent, whose name did not circulate in Calgary, will therefore obviously not have a chance this year in the NHL as a pilot. After all, their name does not circulate in New York.

Prolongation

We also thought the Flames might have named a man like Gerard Gallant, who has known Jonathan Huberdeau well in the past. But obviously, that’s not the case.

We will see if it will work with the chosen formula.
