A Palestinian, aged 23, reportedly told Fedasil he intended to “die a martyr by blowing himself up.”
The man submitted an asylum application in Belgium on September 26. Although he was scheduled to appear once more the next day, this was not the case. As he finally showed up at Fedasil on Tuesday, he reportedly expressed his desire to die as a martyr, mentioning that he had learned that his entire family had died in Gaza.
Following this statement, the latter was immediately reported nationally, triggering a manhunt by all police units in the country. After the attack in which two Swedes lost their lives, the police are taking no risks. Threat Level 3, indicating a serious threat, is currently in effect.
Contacted this morning, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office indicated that it “can confirm having been informed of the facts. The individual is actively sought. In the interest of the investigation no further comments will be made”.
The Brussels Midi police zone confirms to us that the individual was arrested in Anderlecht shortly before 12:30 p.m. According to another source close to the case, he was intercepted in a hotel.
