BREAKING NEWS! Joe Biden drops out of presidential candidacy

Joe Biden resigns from presidential candidacy! President Joe Biden made public this Sunday through his profile on the X platform, his decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

According to the publication, Biden has changed his position and is finally leaving the race that has become dramatic, marked by the attack on the former president on Saturday, July 13.

Through a letter published on his X account, the president who was seeking reelection announced his decision and thanked his voters, the Democratic Party and his vice presidential candidate, Kamala Harris.

Joe Biden resigns

Joe Biden, 81, has faced mounting pressure within his own party over allegations about his physical and mental fitness for a second term.

More than one in ten Democratic congressmen have publicly called for him to abandon the campaign, alarmed by the possible negative impact on the November 5 elections.

Biden had promised to continue his campaign, saying he would resume his electoral activities soon, but he has finally decided to step aside.

The president’s announcement comes as a culmination of a 51-year political career that began in 1973 when he entered Congress as a senator from Delaware.

He then served as vice president during Barack Obama’s two terms, from 2099 to 2017, and finally as president from 2021 to the present. His current term ends on January 20, 2025.

Now, the Democratic Party must choose a replacement to face Trump in the November elections.

And to achieve this, party rules stipulate that the more than 3,900 delegates will vote at the Democratic Convention in a first round, for a replacement, at the event scheduled for August in Chicago.

If a candidate wins the majority of votes, he or she will be the head of the party ticket. If there is no consensus, then the 700 “superdelegates” vote, and then the delegates vote again, until a candidate wins the majority of delegates.

JOSEPH R. BIDEN, JR.

July 21, 2024

My fellow Americans,

Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation.

Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We have made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and expanding affordable health care to record numbers of Americans. We have provided critically needed care to one million veterans exposed to toxic substances. We passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. We appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. And we passed the most important climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than today.

I know that none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a century-long pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We have protected and preserved our Democracy. And we have revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country that I step down and concentrate solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

I will speak to the Nation later this week with more details about my decision.

For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all of this work. And let me express my sincere appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust they have placed in me.

I believe today what I have always believed: that there is nothing America cannot do – when we do it together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America.

Who will be the Democratic candidate?

The current president of the United States, Biden, proposed Kamala Harris, who has been his vice-presidential candidate, as the Democratic candidate, as reported through his X account.

Fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all of my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My first decision as the party’s nominee in 2020 was to select Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it has been the best decision I have ever made. Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats: It’s time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s do it, the president wrote on his X account.
