An alleged armed group kidnapped 14 administrative workers from the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSyPC) of the state of Chiapas, southeastern Mexico, the institution itself reported on Tuesday.

The events occurred on the Ocozocoautla-Tuxtla Gutiérrez highway section.

“Derived from a report of assistance, a permanent operation was immediately established by air and by land with all the armed forces to find the whereregardings of the compañeros deprived of liberty, carrying out all the necessary actions to find them and take them to the responsible to the competent authorities,” the agency said in a statement.

According to reports, the workers left the offices of the old Llano San Juan airport for the municipality of Ocozocoautla, when they were intercepted and taken down by armed men.

An official from the state corporation, who asked not to be quoted because he was not authorized to speak to the press, told the AP agency that the women who were in the official vehicle were released while the men were kidnapped.

In a video posted on social networks, it can be seen how a group of armed individuals traveling in different vehicles point firearms at a bus where the SSyPC workers were traveling.

Initially, different information indicated that there were 23 people kidnapped, but the SSyPC specified that there were 14 administrative employees kidnapped.
