US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has questioned whether or not Hamas is “progressing in good religion” in ceasefire talks.
Blinken, who’s pushing for a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal within the area, stated Hamas had proposed a sequence of adjustments “that transcend the positions that they had beforehand taken.”
“There comes some extent the place if one social gathering continues to alter their calls for and even makes calls for and insists on altering issues that they’ve agreed to, it’s a must to ask your self whether or not they’re appearing in good religion,” he stated in a speech this week in Qatar.
Blinken stated that whereas he believed the present gaps “might enhance,” that did not imply they might shrink. “In the end, it is as much as folks to agree or not.”
“It is time to cease bargaining and begin a ceasefire,” he stated.
Blinken made the remarks in Doha alongside Qatari Prime Minister and International Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Al-Thani stated Qatar, Egypt and the US had mentioned Hamas’s response to the proposal.
“We in Qatar and our companions are dedicated to closing the hole and discovering methods to finish the conflict as shortly as doable,” Al-Thani added.
