At home, we are heading for a new temperature record in June. In Uccle, it is the hottest ever recorded since 1833 with an average of more than 20 degrees.

June 11 was the hottest. That day, it was 31 degrees in Uccle, and the Belgians were looking to cool off at all costs. The last average temperature record for the month of June was 19 degrees 3 and dates back to 2003. This year, we are at 20 degrees 1. The residents, moreover, explain that they experienced these temperatures rather badly.

This temperature record is explained in particular by the many days with temperatures above 25 degrees. “It was a heat wave that lasted 10 days, then there was a small cut, but even then the temperatures remained quite high“, explains meteorologist David Dehenauw.

With global warming, these heat records tend to be more frequent. “It’s a little scary, we wonder how it will end in the next few years“, explains a passerby.

This month of June might also break a record for sunshine: the last dates from 1976 with more than 302 hours.

According to the latest readings; we are at 294 hours. We will have to wait until Friday evening to know the final number.
