The charming Longji in Longsheng, Guilin is renowned for its scenic beauty. Huangluo Yao is a small village within Longji. The village belongs to the Red Yao community, a special branch of the Yao clan in China. Women of the Red Yao clan always like to dress up and wear red clothes the most. Another characteristic of the women here is their unusually long hair.

From the day of birth to the age of 18, they do not cut their hair. After the age of 18, it is a celebration that they perform their hair cutting ceremony. For them, long hair is a symbol of longevity, wealth, prosperity and luck. It is said that gray hair is rarely seen even among the elderly in their village, who follow a special method for hair care.
