Maine Gov. Janet Mills and Senators Cory Booker and John Thune are among the lawmakers sitting with moderator Alexander Heffner.

Bloomberg Originals is launching a new series entitled Breaking Bread, which will feature in-depth conversations with some of America’s leaders over their favorite meals. In the series, author, journalist and host Alexander Heffner (PBS’ “The Open Mind”) will break bread, both literally and figuratively, with politically and geographically diverse U.S. governors and senators. Together they discuss everything from the state of America’s democracy and economy to the security and morale of the nation to artificial intelligence and natural resources.

Consisting of narratives and interviews conducted across the country, Breaking Bread uses food as a starting point to explore the biographies, political concerns and culinary preferences of the chosen leaders and the places they call home. The show’s creators say the series will focus on the things that unite Americans, rather than the things that separate them, on how to solve problems together and a better understanding of democracy and important issues and federal politics can promote.

The ten issues include interviews with Senator Cory Booker in Newark, NJ, Senator John Thune in Murdo, SD, and Gov. Janet Mills at her home in Maine. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, Gov. Spencer Cox of Utah, Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, and Gov. Doug Burgu of North Dakota (who is running for president) have also met with Heffner.
