After all autumn the authorities gave us assurances that the national energy system is very well prepared for the cold season and that there will be no problems, winter did not come well and the breakdowns started. Several power lines have fallen in the area of Dobrogea, interrupting the electricity supply to consumers, and reactor 1 in Cernavodă was automatically disconnected, “as a result of the weather conditions that caused disturbances in the national energy system”, as announced by Nuclearelectrica and the Ministry Energy.

“The weather conditions will be difficult from this evening until tomorrow in the second part of the day, especially in the south-eastern area of Romania. Important energy production capacities, especially nuclear and wind, are concentrated here. Wind forecasts indicate possible values of 75-80 km/h, up to 100 km/h in gusts. At such speeds, wind turbines can be stopped, and electricity transmission and distribution networks can be affected,” a statement from the Ministry of Energy states.

Nuclearelectrica announced that Unit 1 of CNE Cernavodă was automatically disconnected this evening as a result of the weather conditions that caused disturbances in the national energy system.

The automatic shutdown of Unit 1 occurred safely, with all unit systems operating and responding as designed in such situations.

At the same time, due to the very strong wind, the wind turbines started to stop. The wind farms are currently producing regarding 1,400 MW, compared to 2,400 MW as planned.

With unit 1 from Cernavodă disconnected, at this moment there is a 1,700 MW deficit in the energy system, say the representatives of the ministry.

Then he adds: “The situation is under control with the support of Hidroelectrica, ensuring the balance of the national energy system. At the moment there are no problems”.

“The teams of Rețele Electrice Dobrogea and contractors continue to intervene to restore electricity supply to customers in areas affected by difficult weather conditions – code orange and red wind, with speeds over 100 km/h.

The interventions are made difficult by the severe weather, especially in Constanța and Tulcea counties. We are collaborating with the central and local authorities to fix the damage as soon as possible,” the representatives of PPC Romania (formerly Enel), the company that owns the distribution network in the area, said in turn.
