MEXICO CITY (AP) — Brazilian Moisés Veiga will be the new player for Cruz Azul de México for the Apertura 2023 tournament, reported the Fortaleza club, where the striker comes from.

Veiga, 26, spent the last year of his career with Fortaleza. He made his debut with Hercilio Luz in 2019 and also went through Concordia, Brusque and Ponte Preta.

Cruz Azul has not officially confirmed the arrival of the player. La Máquina usually waits for its signings to go through medical exams before making the official announcement.

In Brazil, the president of the Fortaleza team, Marcelo Paz said that the transfer was for 4.85 million dollars divided into three payments for 90% of the player’s card.

“He is a very important athlete for the cast, but it was important to make the sports movement,” said Paz. “He created a bond with the fans, but right now we have financial balance needs.”

Veiga is the second signing of Cruz Azul for the Apertura 2023 tournament. The other is the Mexican defender Carlos Salcedo.

Cruz Azul, one of the four most popular teams in the country, has just fallen in the playoffs, which left it on the sidelines of the league for the Clausura 2023 title.

Under the orders of the Brazilian Ricardo Ferretti, the Machine seeks to win the ninth crown in its history in the next tournament that starts at the end of June.
