Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva intends to discuss the situation around the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Japan. He wants to offer his mediation for a settlement. According to the Brazilian leader, “the time has come for diplomacy, not war.”

“We need to find someone who can discuss peace, and Brazil is ready for this,” Mr. Lula da Silva said at a joint press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte (quoted from TASS).

The President said that he had already spoken regarding the settlement of the conflict with the leaders of China, Great Britain, and the Netherlands. He intends to raise this topic at all meetings on the sidelines of the G7 summit, including with the leaders of India and Indonesia.

Mr. Lula da Silva believes that each of the parties involved in the conflict has its own reasons for its actions. “For Ukraine, the occupation of its territory is unacceptable, it is forced to resist, the EU has its own arguments in favor of the decision, and Brazil and other countries have their own reasons to try to find a compromise. I think it’s possible,” he added.

The President of Brazil visited China in mid-April and following that once more spoke in favor of creating an analogue of the G20 for negotiations on Ukraine. In his opinion, the actions of Europe and the United States contribute to the continuation of hostilities.
