Brazilian President Lula da Silva expressed his grief following the death of the Brazilian football “legend”, Edison Arantes de Nascimento “Pele”.
“I had an advantage that many young Brazilians did not have,” Lula said on social media. “I watched Pele play in the Pacaimio and Morumbi stadiums.”

Pele passed away on Thursday evening at the age of 82After a long struggle with cancer.
Pele was admitted to the hospital on November 29, and despite undergoing treatment sessions, his body did not respond.
Pele is considered one of the biggest football icons in Brazil, especially since he won the World Cup on 3 occasions in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
Pele also had a political role in Brazil, as he became the first sports minister in Brazilian history between 1995 and 1998.
I had the privilege that younger Brazilians didn’t have: I saw Pelé play, live, at Pacaembu and Morumbi. Play, no. I saw Pelé give a show. Because when he got the ball he always did something special, which often ended up in a goal.
