Brazilian government supports journalist who reported harassment at Paris 2024

The Government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva supports the journalist Verónica Dalcanal of public television Brazilianwho reported having been harassed by three men while she was working on coverage of the Paris Olympics.

“It is unacceptable that female journalists continue to be victims of such violence,” expressed in an official note the Secretariat of Social Communication (Secom) of the Brazilian Presidency.

In the note, Secom expresses its solidarity with the reporter and will provide her with all necessary support at this time.

The Minister for Women, Cida Mendonça, considered it unacceptable that some men believe they own women’s bodies and that journalists and other women go through such situations.

Dalcanal, a journalist for the Brazilian Communications Company (EBC) who was covering the Olympic Games, reported that on Saturday, while she was preparing for a live broadcast from Paris, three men approached her, touched her and even kissed her, until she was able to separate from them.
