While traveling the streets of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, passengers suddenly think they are filming a Spider-Man movie, but they are actually street artist Cristian Mauricio LaRotta as Spider-Man.
Christine is 34 years old and was a teacher in Columbia. To cope with the low salary and the responsibility of raising two children, he decided to become a street artist and traveled to South American countries.
‘I decided to leave Colombia because, unfortunately, the salary of an educator is not very good and I had two children,’ says Christine.
Christine told about her journey and said, “In all the countries I have lived in South America, art has given me economic stability there.” I have come here from many countries. Brazil is not the only country, but it is where I have lived the longest. It’s been five years now because it’s huge.’
Christine has traveled through 15 Brazilian states so far.
To display his art, he usually chooses a traffic sign in the city that has a tree on the right or left.
“When I see a city with a lot of trees, I look for a specific tree with a specific branch,” Christine said of choosing a place to display her art.

“Then I do some safety tests on it because my life depends on it,” Christen continued. It’s dangerous but everything has to be calculated.’
Christine has performed street art in several film roles, but Spider-Man is her favorite character. Perhaps one of the reasons for this is that Spider-Man’s character is best suited for hanging from trees and doing stunts.
Christine wishes to find a stable job so that she can bring her children to Brazil and continue her education.
Talking about her income from street art, Christine said, ‘It’s not always possible to make a good income. But at least there is the satisfaction of people who like my work with a smile and that is the best motivation for an artist.’

**Interview with Cristian Mauricio LaRotta: The Street Artist Behind the Spider-Man Costume**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Cristian. You’ve had quite an extraordinary journey from being a teacher in Colombia to becoming a renowned street artist in Brazil. Can you tell us about what motivated you to make that transition?
**Cristian:** Thank you for having me! The decision to leave teaching stemmed mainly from economic challenges. The salary of an educator in Colombia isn’t sufficient to support a family, especially with two children. I wanted to provide a better life for them, and art became my way out.
**Interviewer:** That’s a brave move. You’ve traveled through many South American countries as a street artist. How has your experience been in Brazil specifically, and why have you decided to stay here for so long?
**Cristian:** Brazil has been incredibly welcoming. It’s rich in culture and arts, and I found that my style resonated well here. I have lived in Brazil for over five years now, and it’s the place where I’ve felt the most stable. Art has not only provided me with economic stability but has also connected me to a vibrant community.
**Interviewer:** Your portrayal of Spider-Man has captivated many in Belo Horizonte. What inspired you to adopt this character for your street performances?
**Cristian:** Spider-Man represents hope, resilience, and the idea that anyone can be a hero in their own life. It’s a universal character that resonates with people of all ages. When I perform as Spider-Man, I see the joy it brings to children and their families, and that’s what it’s all about for me.
**Interviewer:** It’s amazing to see how your art brings happiness to others! Many families might recognize you on the streets as Spider-Man. What’s the most memorable interaction you’ve had with your audience?
**Cristian:** Oh, there have been so many! One interaction that stands out was with a little boy who was shy but approached me, beaming with excitement. He said, “You are my hero!” and his joy reminded me of why I do this. It’s fulfilling to know that I can bring smiles to faces, especially during tough times.
**Interviewer:** That sounds heartwarming. As a street artist, what challenges do you face, and how do you overcome them?
**Cristian:** The challenges are many, from financial instability to the uncertainty of the street art scene. But the biggest challenge is often finding a space where you can safely express your art. I overcome these challenges by staying true to my passion and continuously adapting to the environment around me.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Cristian, for sharing your story with us. Your journey is inspiring, and your work as a street artist truly makes a difference in the lives of many.
**Cristian:** Thank you! I appreciate the opportunity to share my journey. I hope to continue spreading joy through my art for many more years to come.
