Brazil reaches highest FX flow in a decade in 2022

Data shared by BC (Central Bank) in the first week of 2023 revealed that Brazil ended 2022 with the best foreign exchange flow in ten years. The term refers to the balance of operations both in the trade balances and in financial operations linked to financial institutions abroad. The exchange flow demonstrates the amount of foreign currency entering or leaving the country.

In the sum of last year, a net inflow of US$ 9.574 billion (R$ 49.06 billion) was recorded at the contracted exchange rate, the highest surplus since 2012.

Already in 2021, the exchange flow was positive at US$ 6.134 billion (R$ 31.43 billion), as shown by a Forbes publication. The commercial account, in turn, reached US$ 34.288 billion (R$ 175.69 billion) in accumulated net inflows last year, the highest sum since 2018, when US$ 47.740 billion (R$ 244, 61 billion).

In 2021, the commercial and financial sectors reached a surplus of US$ 9.803 billion (R$ 50.23 billion) and a deficit of US$ 3.669 billion (R$ 18.80 billion), respectively. For Luciano Bravo, CEO of Comercial Intelligence and Country Manager at Savel Capital Partners, the results of the foreign exchange flow to Brazil in 2022 were positive for the country.

In Bravo’s analysis, the expressive result is due to at least four years of construction, a period in which the country prepared itself to be among the most sought following countries for international investment, according to the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development or Economic), intergovernmental economic organization with 38 member countries. The entity was founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade.

“Furthermore”, he adds, “among the member countries of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) – a group of emerging market nations in terms of their economic development – Brazil still It is the most stable, with great potential for growth”.

The businessman also draws attention to the result of the positive trade balance for exports, both in agriculture and industry: “All these factors contributed to this great result”.

For 2023, the CEO of Commercial Intelligence and Country Manager at Savel Capital Partners believes that expectations are positive, despite the scenario of high international inflation.

“Brazil should continue to be an attraction for the inflow of dollars and the search for opportunities by foreign investors. We also have the Marco Legal de Câmbio that will allow for greater movement in dollars, and this encourages the entry of foreign capital into the country”, he says.
