Brazil: Plane crashes with 62 people on board

The twin-engine ATR-72 of the Voepass company was flying from Cascavel in the state of Paraná to Guarulos Airport in Sao Paulo. According to a Voepass announcement, 58 travelers and 4 crew members were on board the fatal aircraft.

So far there is no information about any survivors. In the images from the scene of the air tragedy, thick smoke can be seen rising into the sky from the place where the aircraft crashed.

Brazil’s GloboNews television showed footage of a large area on fire and smoke billowing from the fuselage of a plane that appeared to be on fire. Additional footage on GloboNews showed a plane drifting vertically downward and spinning as it fell.

Brazil’s airports authority Infraero did not immediately confirm the information after a request from The Associated Press. No local airlines immediately reported one of their planes missing.

The fire service of the state of Sao Paulo confirmed on social media that a plane had crashed in Vinedo and that it had sent seven rescue crews to the crash site.
