Other telescope was launched into space with Brazil’s participation. It’s regarding the Euclidequipment of European Space Agency who will study dark matter. He reached space by means of the rocket Falcon 9 and was tracked by Barreira do Inferno Launch Center (CLBI), in Natal.
The operation was carried out last Saturday (1st) and during the operation, CLBI collected telemetry data from the aircraft in real time. In this sense, the information is very important, since it mentions points such as the conditions and trajectory of the rocket. Furthermore, everything is transmitted to SpaceX’s mission control center.
To avoid any problems, the Center’s military and civilian personnel were trained by SpaceX and ESA employees. In this way, they were trained to maintain and use the tracking equipment. The professionals, therefore, were qualified so that they might guarantee safety and intervene, if necessary.
Erivando Pereira Souza, colonel and director of CLBI, commented on the news:
Participation and success in Operation Euclid demonstrate the operational capacity of CLBI’s means and human resources, which might also be proven through the interactions of our civilians and military with new technologies and with cutting-edge teams in the world
In case you didn’t know, this was not the first time that Brazil participated in the launch of a telescope. In 2021, the same CLBI accompanied the launch of James Webb. Finally, see also the details regarding BINGO, a Brazilian radio telescope that will be in charge of studying dark matter.
