O Brazil is the country that most send audios through the WhatsApp. At least that’s what the company’s CEO, Will Cathcart, said, who highlighted the country in some speeches and took the opportunity to state that Brazilians lead several metrics related to the messenger, even though they are in third place in relation to the number of users.

Cathcart spoke about and some other topics during an interview with Folha. In this sense, the executive also commented on the situation involving mass shooting of messages:

We work hard to combat mass messaging. We’ve greatly increased our ability to detect and ban people who are creating multiple accounts to send mass messages. And we will maintain our partnership with the TSE [Tribunal Superior Eleitoral]working with fact checkers

The company’s CEO also stated that Brazil sends the largest number of text messages and messages that disappear on WhatsApp. Given these points, Meta considers the country to be an essential market, as the use of messengers is very intense.

Cathcart also spoke about media regulation and expressed concern about measures that could undermine users’ privacy. Likewise, he also said he believes that encryption is vital so that people can chat without the content being monitored by third parties.

As for the fact that the app is free, the executive said that he intends to keep it that way and that there are no plans to implement advertisements for users. Not only that, but he also commented on the messenger’s use of Artificial Intelligence:

Obviously, this is AI, so we are learning. But it is a way to access information without having to search the internet or visit websites. The last one we have already announced, and we hope it arrives in Brazil soon, is AI to help companies respond to their customers
