As much as many are fighting for the basics, others in Brazil have a much better life. This is because in our country, more than 153,100 individual accounts have financial investments of more than R$3 million, according to the Brazilian Association of Financial and Capital Market Entities (Anbima). So who wants to be a millionaire?
The group of millionaires is considered “private” and ended 2022 with an amount of BRL 1.9 trillion in investments. As for 2021, Brazil recorded 125,060 accounts with applications exceeding R$ 3 million. In this, 28 thousand new high investments were created with an advance of more than 20%.
The data shows that total contributions in December 2022 exceeded BRL 5 trillion, which symbolizes an increase of 11.7% compared to the BRL 4.5 trillion recorded in the previous year.
Even, according to the financial market association, all this growth was driven by retail (traditional and high-income). The total sum was more than BRL 3.1 trillion in invested volume and also registered 143.6 million accounts opened.
What types of investment?
According to the report with data from 2022, Brazilians remained much more conservative last year, forming their portfolio with fixed income. This type of investment accounted for 60.3% of investments. See the ranking below:
- Fixed income: 60.3%
- Variable income: 17.1%
- Hybrids (multimarket funds, ETFs, real estate funds and COE): 16.1%
- Pension (only private volume): 3.7%
- Others: 2.8%
In addition, the institution reported on the increase in investments in bonds and securities, which advanced 25.8% compared to the year 2021. The value reached R$ 2.4 trillion, that is, it represents 47% of the total volume invested.
Also not left behind were investment funds, which last year represented 30% of the total invested, and savings accounts, with 18% of the amount.
Millionaires divided by volume x region
Looking from another perspective, the Southeast region had the largest volume of investments, with BRL 3.4 trillionwhich represents a total of 67.5% invested in the country. Soon following comes the South region with R$ 867.12 billion, which represents 17.2% of the share.

The Northeast concentrated regarding R$ 434.84 billion, which would be 8.6%. While the Midwest had the amount of R$ 258.99 billion, representing a percentage of 5.1% and the North had R$ 258.99 billion, representing 1.6% of the total.
