The Brazilian team announced this Sunday that Real Madrid player Vinícius Júnior was out due to injury and called up Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira for the South American qualifying matches against Chile and Peru.

“The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) wishes the player a speedy recovery,” he said in a brief statement.

The Real Madrid forward could not finish the Spanish League match against Villarreal this Saturday, at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium (2-0), after a bad fall in a duel with a rival in the 79th minute. Vini was the author of the merengue team’s second goal.

The white club reported this Sunday that, “after the tests carried out”, he was diagnosed with “a cervical injury.”

The CBF indicated that Real Madrid informed the Brazilian medical department of the situation and, in this sense, opted to remove him from the squad.

The Canarinha thus loses its main figure, as Neymar is still continuing his recovery after breaking the cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee in October last year.

Brazil will face the Chilean team on the 10th, in Santiago, and five days later it will host the Peruvian team in Brasilia, in matches of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The team led by Dorival Júnior is going through a serious crisis of results and is currently in fifth position in the standings, with a discreet balance of three wins, one draw and four losses.

The last setback was on the previous day against Paraguay, in Asunción, where they lost resoundingly 0-1, which unleashed a wave of criticism that had the coach and Vini as the main targets.

For the World Cup, the first six places qualify directly and the seventh place will play a play-off.
