Brazil awaits publication of minutes

The Brazilian government’s envoy to Caracas, Celso Amorim, said that he is «worried» on the issue of transparency in the Venezuelan elections and that isIt is necessary to deliver the minutes of the electoral sessions, as agreed with the Venezuelan authorities. But he warned that will not support the opposition’s accusation that there was fraudreviewed UOL News.

UOL noted that Amorim’s delegation is currently meeting with international observers, precisely to understand what is happening. “The most annoying problem is the (lack of) transparency,” he said. “The government continues to monitor until it has the necessary data to do something based on it, as in every election.”the diplomat explained.

Amorim said he does not doubt what is being said, but insisted: “It has to be transparent.” “The government was supposed to provide the records from which this figure results, but this has not happened yet.”he added.

«The Brazilian government continues to monitor developments to arrive at a fact-based assessment»said. “As in every election there must be transparency, the CNE is responsible for providing the minutes that support the announced result,” he said. “I will not support any narrative that there was fraud. It is a complex situation and we want to support the normalization of the Venezuelan political process.”he explained.

Brasilia’s precaution is due to the risk of fraud. Brazil has asked the UN mission in Venezuela and the Carter Center to investigate opposition complaints about problems with the vote count. The UN and the Carter Center were welcomed as observers.

Following Nicolás Maduro’s criticism of the Brazilian electoral system, last week the TSE (Superior Electoral Tribunal) decided not to send technicians to monitor the elections.
