Braves break out with 5 homers in blowout of Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Matt Olson and Austin Riley hit back-to-back homers as part of a four-run first-inning burst, and the Atlanta Braves homered five times to rout the Kansas City Royals 10-3 Friday.

Sam Hilliard, Sean Murphy and Ronald Acuna Jr. homered for the Braves. Hilliard hit a 448-foot drive that put the ball past the right-field bullpen in the second inning.

Murphy drove in three runs.

Brady Singer (1-1) allowed four of the home runs, one shy of his career low. He allowed eight runs and 10 hits in five stops, as his ERA dropped to 7.88.

Braves manager Brian Snitker was ejected in the second inning for arguing with umpires, who fouled Olson’s drive off the left-field wall with runners on first and second. The decision was later changed to fairball.

Charlie Morton (2-1) got the win, allowing three runs and six hits in six innings.

For the Braves, Venezuelan Acuña went 5-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario 5-1 with a run scored.

For the Royals, Venezuelans Salvador Pérez went 4-1, Edward Olivares 4-1 with a run scored. The Dominican Franmil Reyes 4-0.
