A young enthusiast
His passion for wildlife inspired Adam Warwick, a young biologist at the Wildlife Commission in Florida, to rescue a black bear in distress. As relayed by the British daily Financial Times in an article published in June 2014, the young man dove without hesitation into the ocean in the hope of saving this dark-coated predator. But it was a real challenge for the young man because, remember, this robust animal can reach up to two meters high and weigh between 100 and 300 kg.
A sedated bear
The bear was reportedly seen in the residential area of Aligator Point in Florida in the United States, strutting through the alleys looking for something to eat. After being reported by residents, authorities went to the scene and tried to calm the animal with a tranquilizer dart. But things didn’t go as planned! The bear became frightened and headed towards the ocean in a daze. Not a very wise decision, especially since he was sedated.
A heroic and courageous act
If Adam had not been there, the bear would not have been able to survive such a drowning. The poor animal might no longer move its legs when the young man joined it. After so much effort, the young man managed to get the animal out of the water. An experience which might also have cost the young man his life. Fortunately, he only had a few scratches and the bear was still alive and well. The animal was able to be released into the Osceola National Forest.
