(Vancouver = Yonhap News) Correspondent Jo Jae-yong = A female nurse in Canada smashed a cougar (cougar) that attacked a 7-year-old boy with a stone, expelling him and saving the child.
According to local CTV on the 4th (hereinfollowing local time), nurse Alicia Morrison heard a voice shouting ‘a cougar has appeared’ while playing along the river with her party at Buster Creek, a campground in southern Alberta on the 31st of last month.
They were catching a frog, when a girl in the group screamed when she saw a cougar attacking the other party’s boy, Caisen Poiser, 7, who was in the group.
The moment Morrison turned his head to look at the scene, the cougar was on the child’s body and his jaws open.
Without time to think, Morrison picked up whatever stone he might get his hands on and rushed in and smashed the cougar in the head.
“It was a fleeting moment,” he said of the tense moment.
He added, “I was crazy, but fortunately I didn’t hit the child.”
After stopping the attack, the cougar turned to the camp, but was chased by a dog brought by the party and fled into the forest.
After breathing, Morrison found a bloody wound on the child’s face, took him to the camp, gave first aid, including hemostasis, and called an ambulance.
“It all happened in a flash,” he said. “I believe it was because of the training instincts I had in my body as a nurse.”
Cayson was taken to the hospital for surgical treatment and is now in good condition.
Morrison said that he enjoys outdoor activities a lot and always prepares for similar situations.
His principle is to keep emergency weapons stocked on trailers used as shelters and always easily accessible.
“I was ready for what I needed,” he said. “It is natural that primitive instincts emerged by lifting rocks.”
