Brasserie Carstens: delicious food in Amsterdam Center!

Brasserie Carstens, in Amsterdam Center, reopened last month! If you are looking for a restaurant in Amsterdam Center with refreshing dishes with sustainable ingredients, then you definitely want to go here. We took a look, and were really surprised!

Brasserie Carstens in Amsterdam Center

Brasserie Carstens is located in the center, opposite Amsterdam Central Station. Ideal if you are looking for a good restaurant in the center of Amsterdam! With this new concept, chef Jeroen Bruinsma puts pure, elegant dishes on the table, with sustainable products from Dutch soil. Jeroen has been trained by the best star chefs and has gained a lot of experience at well-known restaurants such as Vossius, Vermeer and La Sirene. And you can really taste that passion and craftsmanship in his dishes! Pure flavours, surprising combinations and delicious matching wines: we were really pampered at Carstens.

Chef’s menu with seasonal products

There is a lot of delicious food on the menu, and because Carstens works with local seasonal products, they regularly adjust the menu. You can order à la carte, but they also have a 3 or 4 course chef’s menu, with matching wines if you wish. We like to be surprised, so this time we are going for the 4-course menu! We start with a surprising starter that immediately brings out the simplicity and pure flavors of Jeroen: on a cream of white beans and vadouvan is roasted kohlrabi, finely sliced fennel and cumin cheese. A really tasty dish, and the Apostelhoeve wine that we get with it fits perfectly.

Works of art with exciting flavours

The intermediate dish is our absolute favourite. Soft rice with fruit de mer, finished with samphire and samphire oil. Truly a work of art to see and it tastes fantastic! For the main course, we switch to stronger flavours: pork loin with kale and puree of Japanese sweet potato, which tastes very exciting because of the leek gravy that has a nice grill taste. Finally, we eat an elegant dessert of poached pear with almond shavings.

We really enjoyed Carstens: beautiful dishes with sustainable ingredients, where the taste splashes off your plate! The perfect place for a special dinner in the center of Amsterdam.
