Inatel organizes 2nd Edition of the Brazil 6G Workshop

The National Telecommunications Institute – Inatel holds the “Brazil 6G Workshop” in Santa Rita do Sapucaí, a city better known as Vale da Eletrônica, in the south of Minas Gerais. The action will take place on February 6, 2024, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, at the Inatel Campus (Av. João de Camargo, 510, Centro). With the theme “6G Networks and the contributions of the Brazil 6G project to its evolution”, the meeting aims to emphasize the significant support of the 6G Work and Development Network, in the panorama of this technology in Brazil. The event also presents the main advances and discoveries in the area, as well as future applications and the potential of the next generation of mobile communication.

Vale da Eletrônica welcomes 12 authorities on the sixth generation of mobile networks to the Brasil 6G Workshop, for a discussion on the future of telecommunications in the country.

The 2nd edition of the Workshop is carried out by Inatel in partnership with the National Education and Research Network (RNP). The action, mediated by Luciano Leonel Mendes, Research Coordinator of Brazil 6G, will be divided into a Main Plenary, 10 Lectures, and will also be attended by renowned professionals who are already working in the development of the future 6G Network. The objective is to bring the public closer to the main technological advances in research and development in mobile communication, inside and outside Brazil.

The transition from fifth to sixth generation

Research in 6G is focused on finding innovative solutions that aim to reduce the boundaries between the real and the digital world in the coming years. For the future generation of mobile telephony to be applicable, the world is experiencing a race that proposes creation from architecture and planning to the definition of standards, challenges and the first steps towards integration with 5G technology.

The transition to the sixth generation will be comprehensive, with interconnection capabilities that promise to offer much more than simple voice and data communication, as in previous mobile networks. Resources, previously unexplored, will be made possible due to the high speed and other characteristics of this technology, which already anticipates the innovation of a concept called: “Internet of Senses”.

The Brasil 6G Workshop proposes a dialogue regarding the future of the telecommunications market and its technological integrations. Furthermore, it seeks to promote the exchange of knowledge, ideas, proposals and partnership opportunities between participants.

The public also sees approaches of global relevance, such as: signal power and waveforms for applications in sensing and integrated communications; technical advances in semantic communication, cell-free networks and composite channel technology; radars for energy transfer systems;

Artificial intelligence applied to 6G;

Challenges, standards and innovative solutions for convergence to 6G;

Immersive technologies and their integration with post-5G systems; Network Slicing in 6G networks;

Reconfigurable Smart Surfaces (RIS) created using metamaterials, with the aim of optimizing wireless communication and increasing the capacity of 6G networks; performance optimization for next-generation wireless networks; contributions related to RF and optical communications technologies for 6G networks; among others.

Workshop Brasil 6G

Inatel

Inatel and its partner researchers are part of a pioneering group recognized worldwide for its studies on 5G and 6G technologies. This group’s main objective is to understand the future perspectives of telecommunications and is committed to integrating initiatives for the development of advanced solutions in mobile communications. Within the scenario of advances in access technologies, regulations, ubiquitous connectivity, and the possible applications and services of the future network, “Brazil 6G” invites professionals in the field, students, communicators and the entire community interested in this developing topic , for a discussion. Places at the “Workshop Brasil 6G” are free, but limited, and prior registration with Sympla is required.

THE PROJECT:

The National Telecommunications Institute – Inatel was at the forefront of the research that helped define the standards and requirements for the implementation of the 5th generation of Mobile Communications (5G) in the country. Now, he continues his studies, confirming his pioneering spirit in the technological area, with research into 6G.

In 2021, Inatel, together with the National Research Network (RNP), began leading a pioneering project aimed at creating a favorable ecosystem for the development of the next generation of mobile communications in the country. Brasil 6G has the participation of several national teaching and research institutions and has the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation – MCTI.

The Brazil 6G Project is divided into several research fronts and has the participation of the federal universities of Pará, Ceará, Goiás, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, as well as the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and the Research and Development Center in Telecommunications (CPqD). It also counts on the collaboration of foreign universities such as Oulu, Finland.

At Inatel, in addition to the researchers from the Radiocommunications Reference Center, who had their team redesigned for this new project, all professors work directly or indirectly in research on 6G.
