Provinziale Film Festival: Celebrating 20 Years of Cinematic Brilliance!
As of: October 19, 2024 8:00 p.m
Ah, the Provinziale film festival in Eberswalde! It’s back with a bang, boasting around 2,000 visitors,
which is… exactly the same number of guests as they had before the pandemic. In a world where
movie ticket sales have been as unpredictable as that one friend who says they’ll buy the next round
but promptly vanishes—we’re calling that a win! The festival rolled out the red carpet for the
premiere of RBB’s new Police Call 110, filmed right in Eberswalde. Imagine the excitement: a week
of films culminating in an awards ceremony! If only all the red carpets came with a side of
popcorn.
Eberswalde Film Festival Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary!
Can you believe it? The Eberswalde Film Festival turns 20! That’s two decades of cinematic glory,
questionable short films, and the occasional wine-sipping philosopher in the back row.
Mark your calendars, folks, because this event is no longer just a festival; it’s a legacy![[

Four Competitions – Two Prizes Each
Now, let’s talk awards—because what’s a festival without a bit of friendly competition?
The festival awards two audience prizes in four competitions: a thistle for the most relevant
genre contribution—and yes, I’ve heard they’ve had some prickly situations with that one—and a
rose for the strongest emotional appeal.
This year, in animation, “Loup y es-tu?” from France snagged the emotional rose, while our Dutch
friends with “pig” took home the thistle. In short fiction? Well, “Na Zywo / Live” from Poland
decided to be greedy (but we like greedy!), walking off with both the rose and thistle.
It’s like a film festival buffet—except you don’t need to share your dessert!
Jury Prize for the Topic of Sustainability
And because we all know sustainability is the trendy topic of the season, don’t worry, the jury
had that covered too! The rose in the short documentary competition went to “Marx Stops” from Germany,
while the thistle went to “Fata Morgana” from Germany and Syria. Talk about a cross-cultural love story!
In the wild world of documentaries, “I am fine but” from Germany snagged the rose, leaving “Gerlach”
from the Netherlands with the thistle.
Oh, and a round of applause is due: the jury prize for the best approach to sustainability went to—surprise!—
“Pig” from the Netherlands again. So, if you’re planning an eco-friendly film, just remember:
Pigs might just be the way to go!
