“Brake” on circuits that grant “monkey” prescriptions – 2024-04-06 23:08:03

Put a brake on the over-prescription of imaging diagnostic tests asks the Panhellenic Union of Freelance Radiologists.

The Union calls for measures to be taken once morest over-prescription, stressing that it is known that overspending on diagnostic tests – as well as on drugs – has been covered for years by the businessmen themselves, through the clawback measure.

The amounts that the clinical laboratory doctors and owners of the diagnostic centers are required to pay each time are excessive, as a result of which their viability is threatened, especially that of smaller businesses.

The recent Bill of the Ministry of Health, which provides for a new ceiling and strict control of drug prescriptions, is moving in a positive direction, argue the Radiologists, however, they request that corresponding measures be taken to overcome the expenditure on imaging tests (axial, magnetic, etc.) ).

“We are wondering why the new bill concerns only drugs and not imaging tests and especially magnetic and CT scans that run with a clawback of 50-55%. The topic medicine – expensive imaging tests have a common point, the high clawback”, they specifically note.

According to the Radiologists, the various cutters, the “famous” quality criteria and other “half-measures” that – as they say – were used for 10 years “failed miserably”.

To dismantle the circuits that hoard through fake recipes

Radiologists go one step further. They are asking to stop, as they say, the “monkey” prescriptions by aspirants and circles that infest the area of Diagnostic Centers.

“We are finally calling for an end to monkey prescribing carried out by organized networks of prescribers for the benefit of organized business interests while legitimate labs foot the bill with 50-55% clawbacks.” In recent years, dozens of cases of fake prescriptions, not only for drugs but also for MRIs, have been published in the press,” say the members of the Independent Radiologists.

Finally, they argue that the bill being passed is on the right track, however, the strict control of the prescription and the plafond provided for the drugs should be extended to the Magnetic-Axis tomograph. On the other hand, they emphasize that there is the decision of the EOPYY 556 of 23/04/2019 which sets a ceiling for magnetic and CT scans on a monthly basis.

“It is the only way to deal with this unacceptable clawback that is devouring laboratories and driving laboratory doctors out of Greece. We ask: No two meters and two stations. Completion of the bill with the institutionalization of Plafond and for the imaging tests immediately”, they conclude.

To the knowledge of EOPYY

The above situation described by Radiologists is not at all unknown in the state. A year ago, the Director of Control of Contracts and Benefits of EOPYY (former YPEDYFKA), Theofanis Rigatos, had sent a letter to the providers regarding numerous complaints regarding fictitious prescriptions with “monkey” AMKA.

In its letter, EOPYY informs its providers, laboratory doctors and Primary Care Diagnostic Centers, that the Organization receives numerous complaints “for registration and execution of paraclinical examinations and procedures on beneficiaries of EOPYY without their knowledge”.

It also asks the Panhellenic Association of Medical Diagnostic Centers (PASIDIK) to inform its members “to carry out identification of the person who comes for paraclinical examinations and procedures and to the AMKA he declares”.

The fictitious prescription, as reported by EOPYY, is carried out without the knowledge of the real beneficiaries.
