The complete letter of Rodrigo de Paul

I can’t erase the nerves on the bus on the way to the pitch from my head. That strange and incredible feeling in my stomach knowing that the dream that I had followed since I was a child was regarding to come true. On the path that I decided to follow to fulfill my dream, I lived with the uncertainty of never knowing if I was going to achieve it.

I had to understand what responsibility, work, emotions, perseverance, and above all the pressure and the gaze of those around me mean, that is very difficult for any boy who decides on this profession. But it was all worth it.

Every day I get up to go train. The smell of grass, the locker room, defending my country, and the moments that football made me experience are things that cannot be compared to anything at all.

It makes me very nostalgic to review every moment of my career.

I defend every shirt I wear as if it were the last time I’m going to wear it. That’s how I live it, that’s how they raised me and that’s how it will be until the last day I go out on a court. That is the respect and example that I have to give to each fan and each person who follows and accompanies me throughout so many years.

Sometimes it’s scary to dream of almost unattainable things. But the innocence of a boy who played in a neighborhood called Sarandí, even the man who was given the opportunity to put on the number 7 shirt for my country, was motivated by being a world champion. That’s why today I feel so proud of all these years.

Thanks to each one of all who accompanied me on this great adventure that still has many pages to write. Let’s go for more. Rodrigo.
