Braine-l’Alleud The Walloon Brabant criminal court on Monday convicted in absentia Alexandru C., a homeless man who was guilty of a violent attack on October 4 in the center of Braine-l’Alleud. The man had filmed this attack committed once morest a person suffering from a slight disability, to show the scene to his friends.
In reality, the victim had already filed a complaint once morest the defendant on August 20, 2023, following the theft of his mobile phone in a park in the center of Braine-l’Alleud. But she had been drinking a lot when she arrived at the police station and was not able to provide much evidence to support her claims. The police had intercepted Alexandru C., who denied the facts. The officers did not find the stolen phone on him, but did find drugs which were confiscated from the suspect.
“Extreme verbal violence”
On October 4, the defendant lured the victim into a parking lot to “put pressure” on him so that he would reimburse him the price of the drugs seized by the police following the first complaint. Filming the scene, he hit the man to the point that he had difficulty standing, spat in his face, threatened to rape him, to rape his ex-partner as well as their child, to slit her throat and decapitate her if he did not give 600 euros. The victim, who suffers from mental retardation, was in tears during this attack.
To set the sentence at 26 months in prison, the court took into account in particular the extreme verbal and physical violence during the attack committed once morest a vulnerable person, and the criminal record of the defendant.
