‘Brahmastra’ which turned out to be lucky for Ranbir and Alia

Arjit Singh’s song ‘Kesaria Tera Rang Hai Piya’ was the first window through which Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt got glimpses. Drenched in colors, the two lovers are not on the set of a film, but are walking in the fair of life.

Signing for Brahmastra was a rare moment for Alia

Getting cast for Brahmastra in July 2014 was nothing short of a dream come true for Alia Bhatt. At that time, it was not long since he entered the film industry. Even though ‘Highway’ had just released, his future was still overshadowed by his terrible performance in ‘Student of the Year’ (2012).

In a recent interview she said: ‘It was unbelievable, it was a very unusual moment for me, I was very grateful to be a part of such a big film and still am.’

Brahmastra was initially supposed to release in 2016 and if it did, then we would have Alia Bhatt as the poor Bihari girl in ‘Udta Punjab’, Meghna Gulzar’s Kashmiri spy girl in ‘Raazi’ or as a prostitute in ‘Gangubai Ka Thiawadi’. The form would not have appeared. Of course, then his role in Brahmastra would have felt much bigger and would not have seen the criticism that is happening now.

Many of Alia’s fans say that her role in the film is not as big as expected.

Aliyah has two answers to this objection. The first is that ‘I was a new actress when I got the film and I didn’t have any work.’ Another is that ‘this is a three-film series, some of whose characters will be prominently featured in the second and third installments going forward.’

Ranbir Kapoor’s first successful film after ‘Sanju’

Ranbir Kapoor started the last decade on a grand note with hits like ‘Rock Star’, ‘Barfi’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, but towards the middle, his now started to get stuck in a circle of failures. Even Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’ (2015) and Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Tamasha’ (2015) faltered at the box office.

Ranbir opened his own production company with Anurag Basu, the very first brick of which proved to be crooked. ‘Jagga Jasoos’ (2017) flopped, giving Ranbir a double shock.

Ranbir’s career was doing a lot of hype at that time, but in 2018, ‘Sanju’ proved all the fears wrong. Sanju turned out to be the biggest box office hit of his career.

But after that there is a long silence of four years. Although he has been working on various projects, after ‘Sanju’, he has not released a film till 2022.

His first film released this year was ‘Shamsheera’ which was made at a cost of 150 crores. The film was well publicized but was rejected by the audience and it flopped at the box office.

Just think if this was the case with ‘Brahmastra’, then the Kapoor family would be fighting for survival once again.

This film turned out to be lucky for the entire Bollywood apart from Alia and Ranbir. The past few months have been extremely scary for the Hindi film industry.

2022 has a long list of failed Hindi films including ‘Lal Singh Chadha,’ ‘Shamsheera’ and ‘Raksha Bandhan’. Films were not playing at all, but with the advance booking of ‘Brahmastra’, there was a glimmer of hope.
