Brahmapuram fire: Air force copter to extinguish the fire Ernakulam | Kerala | Deshabhimani

Efforts to put out the fire at the Kochi Brahmapuram waste plant continue. An Mi 17 V5 helicopter from the Air Force’s Solur station was brought in on Tuesday and pumped water from above. The Air Force operation continued for one and a half hours. 10,800 liters of water was poured in the area in six shuttles. Water was taken from FACT’s reservoir. Collector Renu Raj said that the rising smoke can be completely resolved within two days. The Collector was visiting the medical camp started in Brahmapuram under the leadership of the District Medical Office to ensure the health care of the fire fighting staff. Efforts are on to put out the fire and smoke completely. Operations are currently underway to extinguish the smoke. The operation is progressing with 30 fire tenders and 12 excavators including fire rescue personnel from other districts. There are also teams of the Navy and the Air Force. Water is being pumped into the landfill by stirring it up. Navy and Air Force helicopters pump water from above when the wind is not favorable for spraying from below. There are employees here who have been working continuously for six days. The collector said that only trained experts can do this kind of work. So far, health problems due to smoke have not been reported significantly. The collector also requested that people with respiratory diseases, children below 12 years and pregnant women should be especially careful. Medical camp started in Brahmapuram A medical camp has been started near the plant to ensure the health care of the employees working in connection with fire fighting in the Brahmapuram garbage plant. There will be 24-hour medical team service. There will be four doctors on shift basis. The team includes paramedical staff and emergency medical technician nurses. Two ambulances were arranged. An ambulance was equipped with two oxygen parlors. The second is the medical team. The ambulance is equipped with specialized treatment facilities for the staff. Special arrangements have been made at Vadavukode Social Health Centre, Tripunithura Taluka Hospital, Ernakulam General Hospital and Ernakulam Medical College Hospital. In case of emergency, the patients will be taken to these hospitals. Earlier, a medical camp was conducted for the employees of KSEB’s transmission station near the waste plant. The vehicle also has a field gas analyzer to detect the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
