Braga Stages Dramatic Comeback, Draws Sporting 4-4

Braga Battles Back to Secure Dramatic Draw Against Sporting

Lions Claw Back From 4-2 Deficit in Last Minute Thriller

Braga hosted Sporting in a thrilling WSE Cup match Saturday night, culminating in a dramatic 4-4 draw. Acknowledged as the tournament favorites, Sporting, the reigning European champions, found themselves trailing early after Alessandro Verona and Roc Pujadas put the Lions ahead within the first 15 minutes.

However, Braga, undeterred by the Lisbon team’s dominance, responded before halftime. Jorge Silva’s goal cut the deficit, setting the stage for an electrifying
second half.

HC Braga’s tactical adjustments paid dividends as they stormed back in less than six minutes. Zé Pedro Pereira equalized with a penalty, and shortly thereafter doubled his tally, propelling Braga into the lead (3-2). António Trabulo then extended the Minho team’s advantage with a stunning direct free kick, leaving Sporting struggling to regain their composure.

With the clock ticking down and Sporting trailing by two goals, hope seemed to dwindle for the frustrated Lions.

But in the final minute, Nolito Romero ignited a late surge, scoring from a set piece to narrow the margin. With only 37 seconds remaining, Toni Pérez snatched a deflection close to goal, leveling the score at 4-4 and securing a crucial point for Sporting.

The rollercoaster of emotions that defined the match left surfers with a sense of both relief and injustice.
“During the 50 minutes, we created a lot of scoring opportunities,” said Edo Bosch, Sporting’s coach. “The figure of the game was Braga’s goalkeeper. In a more or less fortuitous move, they managed to make it 1-2 close to halftime. We knew we had to start strong in the second half, and for two individual errors in defense, we paid dearly, and HC Braga turned the game around.”

While disappointed by his team’s defensive lapses,Bosch emphasized their resilience:
“We were always on top in the game, there was a lot of desire from the players after 4-2, we managed to equalize in the last minute. We managed an excellent reaction in the last minute, we had a feeling of injustice, we created lots of opportunities but in the end the ‘little star’ was on our side and we managed to get a draw, the smallest and least evil we could take from this game.”
