According to the New York Post, the briefly retired champion asked the FTX company to donate a bitcoin to a charity chosen by the buyer of the ball.

Remember that at the time of the transaction, this ball was considered the one used to complete the last touchdown pass of Brady’s legendary career, during a playoff game last January.

The value of the ball plummeted the day following that record purchase, when Brady announced he was returning to play with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022 season.

“Hey @ftx_official…might we donate some bitcoin to this person’s charity of choice?!” the quarterback posted to his 11.7 million Instagram followers on Friday. Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen are financial partners of FTX.

Brady’s request appeared under a video of the stunning touchdown pass he threw to Mike Evans in Tampa Bay’s playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Jan. 23. The “GOAT” then announced his retirement on February 1.

Fun fact, in the Instagram video, the soccer ball has been modified to look like bitcoin.

An appraiser put the new value of the soccer ball at US$20,000, according to the Daily Mail. One bitcoin is currently worth around US$42,000.

The anonymous buyer of the football will still suffer a loss of nearly US$500,000, even if FTX agrees to Tom Brady’s request.
