The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a deflation of 0.08% on a monthly basis (month to month/mtm) in June 2024. Acting Main Secretary of BPS, Imam Machdi, explained that the deflation occurred due to a decrease in the consumer price index (CPI) from 106.37 in May 2024 to 106.28 in June 2024.
“Deflation in June 2024 was deeper than in May 2024 and was the second deflation this year,” said Imam in a press conference, Monday (1/7).
The largest deflationary expenditure group in June 2024 was food and beverages and tobacco with deflation of 0.49% and contributing 0.14% to deflation.
Then, deflation in June 2024 was also driven by volatile components which experienced deflation of 0.98% and contributed 0.16% to deflation.
The commodities that contributed to June’s monthly deflation were shallots with deflation of 0.09%, tomatoes with 0.07%, and broiler chicken with 0.05%.
Meanwhile, on an annual basis, inflation was 2.51%. The main contributors were food, beverages and tobacco with a share of 1.40%. The main contributors to inflation in this group were rice, red chili and machine-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKM).
“Core component inflation on an annual basis decreased from the previous month. Commodities that contributed to core component inflation were gold jewelry, granulated sugar and rice with side dishes,” Imam emphasized. (Z-11)
