After the outbreak of this affair of the concession for the distribution of newspapers and periodicals, the “new” management of bpost continued its investigations. The internal investigation looked into other contracts. The interim CEO of bpost, Philippe Dartienne, and the chairman of the board of directors, Audrey Hanard, explained this on Thursday, May 4, at a press conference.
The internal investigation focused on contracts with a profile similar to that of the concession for the distribution of newspapers: contracts for public markets, negotiated by the same conductors, with margins apparently too high for the ‘business.
Two contracts already meet these conditions. One concerns the management of European license plates. The other concerns the treasury function of the State accounts, a work that bpost has been carrying out since 1912. Bpost thus recovers for the State, for example, the money from traffic fines.
In total, these three contracts, “license plates”, “treasury of state accounts” and “distribution of newspapers” represent a total amount of 104 million euros, according to figures communicated last Thursday by the management of the company.
Thursday, May 4, the management of bpost explained that it is still trying to verify whether these contracts were legal or not. In addition, she also checks if they are ethical, that is to say, see if the margins are not exaggeratedly high.
Bpost is also investigating other contracts.
