BPM Sports: New Role for Paul Houde, Departures Expected, and More Season Changes

2023-08-02 12:44:55

In the last few days, things have stirred at BPM Sports. We first learned that Paul Houde was going to have a more important role within the station. Then, we knew that following having hosted the weekend morning show last season, he was now going to occupy a role with more visibility this fall: that of being the morning man from the station.

This will be the 49th season for the radio veteran.

And just yesterday, Jean-Charles Lajoie announced via a press release that he would not be back behind his microphone at BPM Sports in 2023-24. JiC and RNC Media report that this is a mutual decision made because of the difficulty of hosting both TV and radio… but Michel Villeneuve is nevertheless categorical: Jean-Charles was simply fired, he said.

We can expect other changes in the programming for the next season. The big bosses – Alexandre Panneton, notably appointed CEO a little less than two months ago – want to carry out a major cleaning. Everything will be officially unveiled in the coming days.

But we have learned from a reliable source that Georges Laraque, who will occupy once once more the dinner box on the air will have a new hosting partner at its side this season. I said nouveaubut I should rather write old new.

Ce nouveau partner, it will be Stéphane Gonzalez, whom radio enthusiasts know well. La Presse raised the possibility of seeing him once more at BPM Sports yesterday and we are able to confirm everything.

Back in the (glorious) days when BPM Sports was still known as 91.9 Sports, Gonzo was rather appreciated by the listeners. His return will most likely be well received by the listeners of the sports station.

Over the years, Gonzo and Georges sometimes worked together and sometimes they each worked on a different show. It changed often.

This year, they will therefore be together following Stéphane Gonzalez spent the last year piloting the show. La Poche Bleue at noon, a sports news daily that was broadcast on TVA Sports, as well as on the social networks of La Poche Bleue.

We contacted most of the people involved in the decision, both on the side of La Poche Bleue and on the side of BPM Sports. Unfortunately, no official confirmation was offered to us by the various stakeholders contacted by the team.

Yves Bombardier, the director of programming at BPM Sports, told us that he would come back to us as soon as possible, but we are still waiting for a return at the time of this writing. Guillaume Latendresse (La Poche Bleue) declined to comment. Georges Laraque and Stéphane Gonzalez did not return our calls.

Maxime Truman, who was Georges Laraque’s co-host last year in Le Monde de Georges, only gave me a few words.

“All I can tell you, Charles, is that we will work together once more in 2023-24. We’ll talk next week if you want. »

After replacing Stéphane Gonzalez at the station, now BPM Sports has replaced Truman with this same Gonzo a year following his departure. It’s not just in the world of hockey that things can change quickly and take unexpected turns. In that of the radio too.

We should expect confirmations as to the next grid from BPM Sports over the next few days.

We don’t know if The Blue Pocket at Noonwhose ratings were not up to expectations, both on the Web than on TV, will return with another presenter or will disappear quite simply.
