The boyfriend of Lynda Marques, a dedicated London nurse tragically gunned down in the couple’s driveway two years ago, was granted bail on Monday following his recent arrest on serious gun and drug charges, raising further questions in a case that continues to attract significant attention.
Ali Bhatti, 30, was apprehended along with two other men earlier this month when London police executed a series of coordinated searches throughout the city. These operations led to the seizure of an alarming cache of five handguns, a silencer, seven extended magazines loaded with ammunition, $61,800 in cash, as well as quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, and other illicit drugs, according to police reports.
Bhatti, whose girlfriend Lynda Marques was fatally shot on September 10, 2022, was already entangled in legal troubles as he faced prior drug possession charges stemming from an arrest in June, during which he was found with cocaine and oxycodone, as revealed by court records.
During a one-day hearing held last Wednesday, Justice of the Peace Anne-Marie Tymec granted Bhatti bail despite opposition from the crown, reflecting the contentious nature of his ongoing legal battles.
His sureties, comprising two relatives and his fiancée, stepped up to pledge a combined total of $35,000 for his release. Additionally, Bhatti consented to pay $15,000 if he fails to abide by his release conditions, which explicitly prohibit him from possessing any weapons or contacting his three co-accused from the two separate cases.
Before being released from Sarnia Jail, where he has been detained since his arrest on November 8, Bhatti must be fitted with a GPS-monitor bracelet. He has been ordered to reside with his two relatives and is restricted from leaving the home for any reason other than medical and legal appointments, which he must attend in the company of one of his sureties. Only family members are permitted to visit him.
Wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, Bhatti spoke briefly in court on Monday, responding affirmatively when asked by the judge if he understood the terms of his release conditions.
The case is set to return to court on December 20, as the legal proceedings continue to unfold in light of the tragic background of his situation.

It suggests that the legal system may not view him as an immediate threat, but it opens a window for more detailed inquiries into his potential involvement in Lynda’s murder and his current activities. The public scrutiny remains very high, and any new developments pertaining to his case could influence not just public perception but also ongoing investigations [[1](https://globalnews.ca/news/8830162/2nd-man-charged-murder-lynda-marques-london-police/)].
