Although war is raging in his Ukrainian homeland, heavyweight legend Wladimir Klitschko has not lost sight of boxing. “I also learned that despite the war, you shouldn’t forget life. Sport is part of my life. I’m glad Tyson Fury won,” said the Ukrainian regarding last Saturday’s fight once morest Dillian Whyte.
In an interview with the Bild newspaper, the 47-year-old does not want to rule out his own comeback: “Who knows, I don’t want to make any big promises here, but if I’m in good shape and especially if the war in Ukraine will soon become one end is coming, and that our borders will stand without any invasion coming from Russia, then in the end who knows?”
His last fight so far was «Dr. Steelhammer” lost to Anthony Joshua in 2017. “If I’m in good shape, who knows, maybe I’ll have this dream of breaking George Foreman’s record. That motivates me to get up every day and do sport,” says Klitschko. US legend Foreman became the oldest heavyweight champion in boxing history in 1994 at the age of 45 years and 9 months by defeating Michael Moorer.
But Klitscho also knows where the priorities lie: “I don’t want to break a jaw, I want to break a record. I said that before the war. And during the war it’s regarding peace in Ukraine and when peace comes, we’ll talk regarding it once more.” (cmu)
