Boxing: Daniel Dubois defeated Anthony Joshua in world title fight

Anthony Johua had the chance to become only the third heavyweight boxer to win the world title a third time. That was not the case.

The 34-year-old had no chance against his seven-year-younger compatriot Daniel Dubois in the match for the IBF belt.

Oleksandr Usyk surrendered his championship belt earlier this summer, making Dubois the interim champion (since he lost to the Ukrainian last year) and the match at Wembley a title fight.

It was five rounds between the two British boxers before Dubois was able to knock Joshua out and take home the belt.

Large audience

– Aren’t you entertained?, Dubois asked the 96,000 spectators at Wembley after the fight with a clear reference to the famous scene from Ridley Scott’s film “Gladiator”.

– It has been a journey and I am grateful to be here. I’m a gladiator, I’m a warrior to the end, said Dubois.

Dubois is now 22-2 in fights, of which 21 of the victories have been by knockout.

Anthony Joshua has long been the face of British boxing. After the match it was a disappointed Joshua.

– I had a fast and alert opponent, there were many mistakes on my part, he said.
