The Goddess of Fortune did not accompany Venezuelan boxer Omailyn Alcalá on Tuesday, as she lost in her debut in the women’s boxing competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Alcalá, who competed in the -57 kilogram (kg) category, lost on the cards by a 4-1 decision against the Polish Julia Szeremeta in a fight that lasted the maximum of three rounds.

The round of 32 match, which marked the end of the boxing activity scheduled for July 30, 2024, took place at the Paris Nord Arena.

Judges’ Score

Alcalá, the only Spanish fighter who competed on Tuesday in the French ring and sat in the red corner during the breaks between rounds, was only seen as the winner by one of the five judges: Reese Shawn (United States). He gave her a favorable score of 29-28.

The other judges in charge of determining the winner of the women’s competition: Susann Köpke (Germany), Pavel Pavlov (Bulgaria), Emerson Pastor (Guatemala) and Jongjin Kim (South Korea) gave their approval to the representative of Poland who received instructions from her coaches in the blue corner.

Köpke determined Szeremeta the winner with a score of 29-28, as did Pavlov (29-28). Pastor considered that the athlete from the old continent dominated the action 30-27 and Kim indicated that this athlete came out victorious 29-28.

It is worth noting that the battle between Alcalá and Szeremeta was refereed by Farzad Sadegh, who is a renowned referee from Iran.
