Officially, “Deadpool & Wolverine” will hit American cinemas today. However, pre-premiere screenings took place on Thursday. And the Marvel spectacle has already broken the record for the first time.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” with record-breaking revenues
According to the first estimates “Deadpool & Wolverine” earned at least $35 million in U.S. theaters on Thursday. Most expect that figure to ultimately rise to at least $40 million.
This breaks the previous record for the highest gross from pre-premiere screenings for an R-rated film. It was held by “Deadpoola 2” and it was “miserable” $18.6 million.
What does that mean for the show’s weekend box office? It’s hard to say yet. PG-13 films with comparable previews include “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ($36 million previews, $187.4 million opening), “Avengers: Infinity War” ($39 million previews, $257.6 million opening).
