Of February 13 to April 14, 2023beginners as well as the most seasoned investors are invited to participate in the stock market simulation Bourstad. They have a chance to win prizes totaling nearly $35,000.
The Bourstad contest takes place on the Internet and each year welcomes high school, CEGEP and university students as well as participants from grand public.
Bourstad: how does it work?
Bourstad is a financial education activity of CIRANO (Interuniversity Center for Research and Analysis of Organizations). The participants in the simulation manage a virtual wallet with a fictitious amount of $200,000. They invest this amount by choosing securities from a selection of 700 securities listed on stock markets.
Throughout the simulation period, participants carry out stock market transactions and manage their portfolio while respecting the investor profile of their fictitious client as well as financial market conditions.
Ultimately, participants must achieve their investor’s investment objectives while improving their knowledge of portfolio management.
In order to help you develop your strategies, the Center interuniversitaire de recherche en analyze des organizations (CIRANO) gives you access to a series of webinars that will deal with these subjects:
- The basics of investing in the stock market
- portfolio management,
- sustainable investing and ESG factors,
- the challenges and opportunities of supply chain management and career choices in the financial sector.
A prize-giving ceremony will be held in May 2023. The jury will then award prizes totaling nearly $35,000 to participants who have distinguished themselves the most in the three components of the competition, namely:
- Financial performance.
- Portfolio management.
- Responsible investment.
How to carry out your transactions?
All the operations related to the simulation are carried out on the site of Bourstad. The technology platform is compatible with mobile devices and allows you, among other things, to describe your investor’s profile, develop your portfolio management strategy, execute securities transactions in real time and receive daily dividend payments.
Note, however, that as part of the competition, the platform imposes limitations in order to avoid high frequency transactions.
